The BVAMC serves approximately 35,000 Veterans living in southern Idaho and eastern Oregon in its 87-bed hospital in Boise and its five community-based Outpatient Clinics located in Twin Falls, Caldwell, Salmon, and Mountain Home, Idaho; and Burns, Oregon.

A teaching and research hospital, the BVAMC has academic affiliations with the University of Washington School of Medicine, Idaho State University, the University of Idaho, and Boise State University, among others.

In 2010, the BVAMC was chosen as one of five Centers of Education for Interprofessional Collaboration to improve primary care education as part of the VA New Models of Care Initiative.

Research areas at the BVAMC include aging, clinical pharmacology, neuro-pharmacology, cardiovascular pharmacology, pulmonary physiology and pharmacology, immuno-pharmacology, infectious disease, and physician diagnosis.

The research and development program increases the BVAMC’s capacity to deliver advanced medical therapies and treatments to its Veteran patients.
